Wow

Well, for the first time for a long time, the race start has been changed due to weather!!! Even racers who have 20 or 25 races under their belt can only remember one or maybe two times this has happened before. The ARC announced by email that "due to the forecasted weather conditions, we are releasing the impound on all ARC airplanes". The new plan is that the race start is now Alliance Nebraska, the fifth stop on the original route. The new race start is noon on Wednesday, everyone is off-race until then, and we have until then to make the 600 nm trip any way we can (VFR or IFR). Its a shame that this has happened, but its also a very good decision because of the weather that we discussed earlier. Its also a great example of the challenges of aviation and the necessity for really good decision making unclouded by emotional judgements (which just happened to be the topic of today's safety seminar!). Linda, Barbara and I already have a flight plan to Alliance as we predicted that this would happen, so now we're off to dinner.
